[QUESTION]

Is the computer or modem required for AWS or the TV station to be able to access our weather data?

[ANSWER] Your weather station needs a way to communicate with the outside world. This can either be an AWS modem, or a computer with Internet access running Airwatch or MacMet Server. AWS can use either method to contact your station. However, not all TV Stations have Internet access. Contact AWS to see if your TV Station has Internet Access or needs to dial into your station through a modem. If you do not have a computer with dedicated Internet access, you must have an AWS modem.

TV STATION USES MODEM ONLY: (most common)

A computer is not necessary, only an AWS modem connected to a dedicated phone line. In this case, you will need an AWS modem even if your computer will be connected to the Internet. The TV Station will dial into the modem and collect your data. If you don't have a computer available you can use your digital display to see your real-time data.

TV STATION HAS INTERNET ACCESS:

In this case, your TV Station would probably prefer that you have a computer connected to the Internet hooked up to your weather station. The computer may not be essential if the TV Station can also use a modem to connect to stations. You should contact AWS and/or your TV station to discuss your individual situation.
