![[QUESTION]](http://wwc.aws.com/aws_2001/images/q.jpg) |
Do we need to have a dedicated phone line for the system, or can a line be shared? |
![[ANSWER]](http://wwc.aws.com/aws_2001/images/a.jpg) |
To eliminate any confusion, we are referring to the phone line used by the AWS modem. We are not referring to the phone line that might be used for your dial-up Internet access. If you need a phone line to connect to your Internet Service, you should have a second phone line installed for your AirWatch system's modem.
A dedicated phone line is recommended to ensure that access to your
site is clear and reliable. However, a dedicated line is not absolutely
necessary. Many sites share their modem line with a fax machine.
In the sharing scenario an automated fax/modem switch will be necessary.
The fax modem switch will detect whether an incoming call is for the fax
or weather station and divert the call appropriately (to the weather station
modem if someone is trying to access your weather data). Automated fax/modem
switches are available at most computer and/or electronics retail outlets
for under $80.
