![[QUESTION]](http://wwc.aws.com/aws_2001/images/q.jpg) |
Where should we locate the sensors on the outside of our building? |
![[ANSWER]](http://wwc.aws.com/aws_2001/images/a.jpg) |
Location of your outdoor sensors is very important to achieving accurate and reliable data. In general, the following rules apply to site selection of your sensors:
Look for unobstructed, open areas.
If possible mount the sensor mast on the exterior wall on the side of
the prevailing winds (usually the west side).
Stay clear of roof vents and air conditioning/heating units that can
affect readings.

The AirWatch system comes standard with 200 feet of data cable to
route between the outdoor sensors and the indoor Master Control Unit (MCU). Try
to locate the sensors within 200’ of where your MCU will be located. If
necessary, cable extensions can be purchased from AWS. See Question 17 for information on maximum data cable lengths.
Be sure that your will be able to route your cable inside without difficulty.
It is recommended that your entire cable route be planned prior to beginning
installation of the components.
The tallest section of the roof is not necessarily recommended. AWS’
experience has shown that temperature considerations are more important
than wind considerations, thus we recommend installation on the exterior
wall on the side of prevailing winds.
