[QUESTION]

How long will the battery backup unit (UPS) operate if there is a power failure?

[ANSWER] Under normal operating conditions, the Un-interruptable Power Supply (UPS) manufactured by American Power Conversion, Inc (APC) can supply approximately 20 minutes of battery backup time. The UPS units power switch/light, will be Green when under normal operation. The light will turn to red and the alarm will being beeping if a drop or surge in power is detected. Refer to the features and specifications included with the unit for particulars.

The UPS provided by AWS has two outlets. The power strip or surge protector should be plugged into one of these outlets and the other should be left unused. Plug the AC adapters for the modem, digital display and Master Control Unit (aka Data Logger) into the power strip. Plug the CPU for your computer into the other outlet on you UPS.
