[QUESTION]

Why is my rainfall inaccurate?

[ANSWER]

As your AWS system is in service over the course of many months and years, you may begin to notice erratic rainfall measurements. To ensure accurate measurement of rainfall, you should service your rain gauge once a quarter as described below.

The most likely cause is that the rain gauge is clogged. Follow the steps below to clean it. You will need a Phillips head screwdriver to do this.

  • Remove top from rain gauge (there are 4 screws around the bottom)
  • Clean plastic bucket, screen and funnel hole
  • Re-assemble rain gauge
