![[QUESTION]](http://wwc.aws.com/aws_2001/images/q.jpg) |
My wind sensor is spinning, but zero wind speed is being indicated on my digital display and/or computer screen. What do I do? |
![[ANSWER]](http://wwc.aws.com/aws_2001/images/a.jpg) |
Follow these steps to identify the source of the problem and then correct it.
-
First, if you are seeing zero wind speeds on your digital display make
sure that the display is showing current, changing conditions. If the time/date
or other data is not correct it is possible that communications has been
interrupted between your data logger or master control unit and your display.
-
Check to make sure that your data logger or master control unit is powered
and functioning properly. The green power light should be illuminated and
the battery low or fault lights should not be illuminated. If not, check
power connections and make sure switch is in the on position. Then check
your wind speed again.
-
Check data cable(s) from outside to insure that they are securely connected
to your data logger and/or master control unit. If not, re-connect and
check for wind speed again.
-
If all systems and connections appear normal inside then the source
of the problem is now isolated to the data cable itself, the wind sensor
or the wind sensor connection to the data cable. First check to data cable
route to make sure than the data cable has not been cut or damaged. If
data cable appears normal then source of problem is outside with sensor
or cable connection.
-
The next location to check is the connection to the wind sensor. For
serial number 96999 and lower this connection is in a junction box on your
mast. Remove the cover of the junction box and carefully check the connection
between the wind sensor and data cable. For serial number 97001 and higher
the wind sensor connects directly to the remote weather module (rwm) in
the sensor shelter. Check the wind sensor connection to the RWM.
-
If all connections appear normal for serial numbers 96999 and below
then the problem resides within the wind sensor itself. Disconnect the
wind sensor and contact AWS technical support. AWS will issue a RMA number
so you can return the sensor to AWS for repair or replacement.
-
For serial numbers 97001 and higher you have a 4 bladed propeller wind
sensor. The sensor itself has a small, black rectangular junction box.
Slide the door of the junction box upward and check the wiring block to
insure that all wires are connected securely. If all wires are securely
connected than there is a problem with the sensor itself. Disconnect the
wind sensor cable from the RWM and contact AWS technical support. An RMA
number will be issued for return of the sensor for repair or replacement.
