![[QUESTION]](http://wwc.aws.com/aws_2001/images/q.jpg) |
What is a Proxy Server, and how can I tell if we have one? |
![[ANSWER]](http://wwc.aws.com/aws_2001/images/a.jpg) |
A Proxy Server is a computer in between your workstation computer and the Internet. When you request a web page, the Proxy Server receives and processes the request. After the web page is received from the Internet, the Proxy Server sends the file over to your workstation computer. To the user, the Proxy Server is invisible. It may be difficult to tell if you have a Proxy Server without asking your school's network administrator.
A Proxy Server can also act as a firewall, blocking incoming network requests from the Internet.
