WeatherBug® Plus 6.1 Eclipses Desktop Competitors, Delivering the Only Live, Personalized Weather Application with Hourly Digital Forecasts and Lightning Data

Precise, Neighborhood Weather Data and Forecasts Help Consumers Plan Their Day and Stay Safe When Severe Weather Threatens

Germantown, MD, – August 15, 2005 – WeatherBug, the leading provider of live, local weather information services, today announced immediate availability of WeatherBug Plus 6.1, WeatherBug’s subscription application. Now available at www.weatherbug.com or at major retail stores, this premium, personalized version of WeatherBug is the only streaming weather program that features live, neighborhood weather conditions, hourly digital forecasts, lightning maps and historical data. This WeatherBug data starkly contrasts alternative weather sources, who issue forecasts based upon computer projections of data collected hourly from area airports.

WeatherBug Plus 6.1 visually tracks a storm’s progression across a given area displaying the associated lightning strikes. These strike maps tell users which storms have produced lightning, how much and how often, tracking their strike path over a 70 minute period. The strikes illustrated on the map are constantly updated to notify the path’s location and direction. The most recent strikes are white, graduating in color to red/orange to the initial strikes in that path. The live WeatherBug weather data and new hourly Digital Forecast show WeatherBug users the severity and frequency of the storm and lightning strikes, allowing them to plan and prevent serious injury and damage.

“There are many weather sites available, but as a commercial pilot I prefer to use 'WeatherBug' as one of the weather information sources I use before flying', because I know that they provide live, reliable data from the network the National Weather Service uses,” said Alan Flewitt, a WeatherBug Plus user from Dallas, Texas. “The new lightning data will be especially helpful.”

The new WeatherBug Digital Forecast model is one of the first desktop weather applications to use the National Weather Service’s new National Digital Forecast Data (NDFD). Focusing on a three-mile radius versus the previous county level, the WeatherBug Digital Forecast delivers more precise, neighborhood weather forecasts for greater relevance and reliability.

Another WeatherBug Plus 6.1 enhancement offers users greater control over the default WeatherBug window. Users can now select and view the features important to them like local traffic, radar, weather cameras, “your” photos and storm central content. Gardeners, farmers, students and Almanac enthusiasts will appreciate access to historical data. Hourly forecasts date back two months, while aggregate statistics, like highs and lows or rainfall, date back four months.

WeatherBug has established a variety of ways for consumer and business users to access the rich proprietary weather information gathered from its exclusive WeatherBug Network of 8,000 live WeatherBug Tracking Stations and more than 1,000 WeatherBug cameras. This not only includes free and premium versions of its downloadable software application WeatherBug, but also SMS alerts, a Windows Mobile™ Smartphone application, and on-air distribution through partnerships with over 100 local TV station affiliates and state and local government agencies.

WeatherBug Plus 6.1 can be purchased at www.weatherbug.com or many major retail outlets, like Best Buy, CompUSA, Circuit City, Frys, Microcenter and Amazon.com for $19.95 MSRP. WeatherBug, available at weatherBug.com, had 19 million unique visitors in June 2005 and is ranked the #1 news and information site, and as a top 10 Internet property in daily reach and loyalty, according to comScore Media Metrix*.
