AWS Energy Services Closes a Strong Quarter with 16 New Customers
Energy Giants Deploy Up-to-the-Second Weather Data and Analysis Software on their Trading Floors; AWS Upgrades MesoStreamer with Enhanced Functionality
Gaithersburg, MD
Gaithersburg, MD - October 21 - AWS Energy Services (www.aws.com/energy), a division of AWS Convergence Technologies, Inc., today announced strong momentum in the third quarter, adding 16 major new corporate customers. Top-tier clients include Constellation Power Source, Entergy-Koch Trading, Mirant Services, Conectiv Energy Supply, Inc., Southern Company Services, Inc., Tractebel Energy Marketing, Inc., and Westar Energy, Inc. System operator ERCOT is also making extensive use of MesoStreamer.
MesoStreamer, powered by the vast and unique AWS WeatherNet nationwide network of automated weather stations, is deployed on energy trading floors and in fleet operations and dispatch centers. It is the only application that provides accurate, localized, up-to-the-second weather information and analysis. The Web-based application allows energy traders to quickly identify valuable market opportunities with substantial ROI. Traders using MesoStreamer are taking advantage of:
- Identification of trading opportunities valued at up to $70,000 per opportunity
- Trading opportunities uniquely identified with MesoStreamer one to three times per week and almost daily in more liquid regions, such as the independent system operator PJM Interconnection
"MesoStreamer has been an important tool for us to recognize market opportunities while managing our risk more effectively," said Jim Stevens, Director of Power Trading Operations for Entergy-Koch Trading. "Currently, it is the only weather application that provides accurate up-to-date weather analysis which enables us to make more informed trading decisions. With the alerts functionality and more comprehensive data of MesoStreamer 1.5, we are better able to anticipate meteorological conditions that affect the market."
AWS Energy Services recently launched MesoStreamer 1.5. This upgrade includes enhanced topographical maps showing over 20 percent more data, and up-to-the-second visual and audible alerts that notify users of important weather events in major load centers. Alerts are activated when temperature thresholds are exceeded, forecasts deviate substantially from actual conditions, and temperatures are changing rapidly. In addition, AWS is now offering its utility company customers a bundled solution that includes both WeatherArrayTM and MesoStreamer. WeatherArrayTM is a fully networked, robust and flexible solution for gathering, cleansing, storing and streaming weather data.
"Although energy markets face historic challenges, executives are looking for better information and tools to identify opportunities and risks and make more informed decisions. It is our goal to provide the industry with the most comprehensive, timely and accurate weather information and analysis to support the business decisions they make. In addition to MesoStreamer, we are bringing to market advanced weather forecasts and analysis tools for our customers," said Jim Anderson, Director of AWS Energy Services.
