The AWS School WeatherNet Program is an interactive,
Internet-based learning solution that integrates live weather data
and images into a range of lessons for elementary, middle and high
school students. The program empowers teachers to customize
pre-built lesson plans with real-time weather data from locations
they choose, either in their own neighborhood or from across the
country.
Just ask NEA-recognized Kenneth Sopelak: "Our original intention
was to use WeatherNet in conjunction with the fourth grade weather
curriculum. It turned out to be so powerful that we were able to
enrich our entire curriculum in kindergarten through fifth grade in
math, science, social studies and language arts."
AWS is offering selected education professionals a special online
guided tour, or "webinar," of WeatherNet Classroom, the program that
links teachers and students to the largest network of weather
stations in the world.
The webinar lasts just 30 minutes and explains:
1) What the WeatherNet network is,
2) How teachers can use real-time weather data to
customize exciting lesson plans that create a dynamic learning
environment with live weather content, and
3) How students will use real world data to learn to
observe, interpret and compare.
The webinar is accessible by anyone with a computer and an
Internet connection.
