About Weathernet

KPIX is proud to announce an exciting new educational program that brings the power of real-time weather into the classroom. We have named the program "WeatherNet" because it links area schools together with the KPIX Weather Center.

This program was designed by the educators, engineers and meteorologists at a company called AWS which is based in Gaithersburg, Maryland. We think that AWS's equipment and software program (called the AirWatch System) is an excellent resource for both on-air use and as a classroom teaching tool.

A cool aspect of this program is that all schools who have an AirWatch System are linked together in a Weather Network which today has over 4,000 members! Now, KPIX is bringing that network home. Our goal is to provide students, teachers, community members, KPIX viewers and World Wide Web surfers with the most up-to-date, real-time weather conditions in the Bay Area.
