Means for Telecommunications
Option 1: Schools Without Direct High Speed Internet Connection*
If your school does not have a direct, high speed Internet connection, a standard analog phone line is all that you will need. Your AirWatch Weather System will include a 9600 baud modem that will be connected to that phone line and will allow you to collect data from other schools and allow TV broadcasters and other schools to collect data from your school. In this configuration, the PC or Mac computer you choose to interface to the weather station does not need to be dedicated to it! The weather station will run without the computer!
Option 2: Direct High Speed Internet Connection Available*
If your school has a direct, high speed Internet connection, your AirWatch Weather System can be connected directly to a PC or Macintosh computer that has its own dedicated IP address. The computer is not required to be dedicated solely for weather station use, but must run AWS' Weather Server software 24 hours per day, every day! No need for a modem!
* Note - A direct high speed connection means 56k, ISDN or T-1 connection. Hint: if you use a modem to dial and connect to the Internet then you do not have a direct, high speed connection. Talk to your technology coordinator or call AWS with questions.
