AWS SchoolNet Weather System
AWS SchoolNet Weather System

Your purchase of an AWS SchoolNet Weather System gives you much more than just the best automated weather station available for academia; you will have joined the Worldwide School Weather Network. The AWS SchoolNet Weather System is more than just a piece of cool technology; it is a powerful educational resource that includes comprehensive, teacher developed, multidisciplinary curriculum and AWS' proven three phase approach for creating "Weather Mania" in your school!

As a participant in the Worldwide School Weather Network you and your students will have access to real time, up-to-the-second, weather conditions from more than 1,200 schools worldwide. Fear not, there are NO recurring fees as a member of the Worldwide School Weather Network and the SchoolNet Weather System comes standard with virtually everything you need to get started.

Imagine plotting graphs of temperatures, winds or rainfall from your school side by side with data from a school across town or in New Zealand, or both! Imagine displaying graphic images of the winds changing every second from a school in South Florida as a hurricane approaches. The educational opportunities are limitless! With AWS Online Technology and the power of the Internet, the communications costs associated with these activities are negligible to none.

Not only will your school be able to monitor weather conditions from other schools worldwide, the data from your school will be made available to everyone else, including a local TV News Channel. Yes, that's right, not only will you be able to use the SchoolNet Weather Station in the classroom, but you can come home and watch the local TV meteorologist show "live", real time weather conditions from your school during the weathercast; talk about motivating your students, faculty and entire community! AWS currently works with more that 65 television stations in the US with more to be added regularly.

AWS Online allows your school to offer real time, up-to-the-second weather data on your own homepage. If you want to give students, teachers, parents and your local community a reason to visit your home page on a regular basis, REAL TIME WEATHER is it! It is constantly changing and available 24 hours per day.

The AWS SchoolNet Weather System has been specifically designed for use in the classroom. Interdisciplinary lessons and interactive educational software, (included with each SchoolNet System and available for PC and MAC computers), make the SchoolNet Weather Station a potent educational tool.

A complete, industrial quality sensor suite accurately monitors the weather at your school 24 hours per day; including temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and direction, barometric pressure, rainfall and light intensity. The rugged sensors are designed for low maintenance and long life. All sensors have been tested in the wind tunnel at Hurricane Force wind speeds of more than 140 mph!

Data from the sensor suite is carried via cable to the data logger. The data logger is the nerve center of the SchoolNet weather system. It automatically processes and data from the sensors at selectable intervals. The data logger can store close to four (4) months of data at hourly intervals. When your back to school after a summer or winter break, you will not have missed a heat wave, severe storm, rainfall, or peak wind gust; the data logger has stored it for you. The SchoolNet data logger is powerful! It is microprocessor controlled and includes three real time serial ports (RS-232 or RS-485) for connections to displays, computers, modems and/or other communications technologies. The data logger can actually process requests for data to each port simultaneously in real time!

Sensor data stored in electronic memory is not much good without a way to look at it! The AWS SchoolNet Weather System is unequaled in its ability to display real time weather data for use in the classroom, or on the local news. The SchoolNet Digital Display is the most comprehensive real time digital available anywhere. Every key weather parameter is displayed simultaneously in large, easy-to-read digits. Housed in an attractive, solid oak cabinet, the SchoolNet Digital Display updates weather conditions from your sensors every second! The touch of a button converts the display to metric units or displays daily highs, lows and current rates of change. The digital display is extremely versatile: multiple displays can be used and they can be located thousands of feet away from the data logger.

The most innovative component of the AWS SchoolNet Weather System is the interactive educational software; the latest versions are referred to as PC-MET 4.0 for PC compatible computers and MacMet 4.0 for Macintosh computers. AWS PC-MET and MacMet software allows you to interface your weather station directly to your PC or Mac computer and communicate with SchoolNet sites Worldwide.

The latest versions are extremely powerful, integrating Internet and conventional modem telecommunications capability. With Internet technology, referred to as AWS OnLine, you can collect, graph, map and analyze data from SchoolNet sites worldwide at no cost! AWS OnLine even allows you to monitor real time, up-to-the-second weather conditions from multiple sites simultaneously; you can graphically see winds changing every second from your school, the school across town and/or a school in the South Pacific at the same time!

PC-MET and MacMet software are designed specifically for ease of use in the classroom. Weather information and help are integrated into all software displays; if a student does not know what the Wind Chill factor is, simply click the help button. The Interdisciplinary Lessons that are included with a SchoolNet Weather System integrate seamlessly with the AWS software. Use AWS Weather as a perfect window to interdisciplinary math and science. Instead of using outdated data from a textbook for your lessons, capture the students attention by using fascinating real time weather data. It is all available with the simple click of a mouse!

Beyond the technology, curriculum and Worldwide Network, AWS' professional staff of teachers, meteorologists, engineers and technicians provide all participants with a comprehensive array of services. Among the services included with network participation are: toll free technical support, remote calibration and installation certification, periodic remote data quality checks, quarterly educational newsletter, discounts on future software upgrades, discounts for access to the AWS Virtual School House, and free access to a wealth of information available on AWS' home page.

AWS' team of educators and technicians are also available for hands-on training for creating "Weather Mania" in your school and insuring comprehensive knowledge of the software and its use in the classroom. Training can be conducted on-site at your school or here at AWS. Call or email Dr. Judy Kalish, AWS Director of Education, for pricing and scheduling.

Installation of the SchoolNet Weather System is no more difficult than installing a TV antenna. In fact, a comprehensive installation video is included with each system. You can contract with AWS to take care of it for you, or you can do it yourself with assistance from your school maintenance department. Most schools have preferred to provide installation themselves. Call AWS with any questions that you may have, or pricing information relating to installation of the system.
